Alpha

A PRACTICAL INTRODUCTION TO THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

This course is designed for everyone, including people interested in investigating Christianity, newcomers to the church, new Christians, and couples preparing for marriage.

The Alpha course is offered periodically and meets once a week and continues for a period of 10-12 weeks. The course typically includes an enjoyable weekend away. Each weekly meeting starts with a simple meal, followed by teaching by one of our leaders or one of a series of video taped talks by Nicky Gumbel. This normally lasts about 45 minutes. The topics covered include:

  1. Who is Jesus?
  2. Why did Jesus die?
  3. Why and How should I read the Bible?
  4. Why and How do I Pray?
  5. What about the Holy Spirit?
  6. How can I overcome evil?
  7. Why and How should I tell others?
  8. Does God heal today?

After each talk, everyone has the opportunity to take part in small group discussions expressing their own response to the talk and listening to the views of others. Everyone is free to say what he or she really thinks and no one is put down. Lively discussions are encouraged. Individual experiences begin to be shared. This gives a valuable opportunity to get to know each other and to learn together.

Alpha is designed to be an outreach ministry to those who do not yet attend church, so this is a good opportunity for people to come to hear the good news in a non-threatening environment. If you have a family member, friend or neighbor who is on your heart, consider inviting them to come to the first talk to see what they think. It is always encouraging to see God at work!

Come and be a member of the team!
